There were also a lot of other things in this book that I just can't place in the above-mentioned categories. But like I mentioned above, there were so many unnecessary scenes that ate from their character development. THE ROMANCE IN THE FIRST HALF of the book was mostly just sexual tension building between Isa and Lucian.

In the second half of the book, her personality spikes as she begins to become this fiesty woman and it made me enjoy her development as a character since I can trace the changes in her from the very first moment she is introduced to the last page.

There are certain aspects of the story that did not appeal to me and yet overall, I appreciated Lucian and the way in which he was able to overcome. If I was a grief eater, I could feast all day on the sadness and misery that comes with being forced to stare at a casket.In my best Stefon voice: This book has EVERYTHING - dark romance, bad parents, the mafia, cults, pedophilia, forced marriage, torture, suicide, murder, drugs, an imbalance of power between a wealthy employer and his employee that results in a questionable sexual relationship, etc. And dude, if you steal something from your employer in the first week and he catches you on camera, you're going to get fired. I can’t even express how much I felt throughout reading this amazing dark and twisted and yet such a magnificent and lovely masterpiece. What a charismatic, dangerous, secretive, seductive but also caring, deeply atoned, sad and lonely character.

I adored Isa’s and Lucians chemistry so much, the angst, the spice, their connection above all else was Urghh magical. We could go inside Lucian’s mind and see exactly what happened to him during the previous years that made him what he is today.This story was embedded in dark notes of love, secrets and pain with deceptive background of elegance. Lucian Blackthorn is NOT an asshole,I’m saying this again if you didn’t believe it the first time,HE IS NOT AN ASSHOLE and this is a dark romance,given his past traumas and all but still he isn’t an asshole,go figure. At first I kept on thinking about some secondary characters- twisted sick bastards, btw- instead of the main ones. Soon her past presents itself and things we learn of the secret lurking right under our noses was shocking. But as soon as she takes her first step to this haunted place, she realizes her life will never be the same.
